Daniel Ricciardo was always the main threat to Sergio Perez in contention for the second Red Bull seat, but with the Mexican’s renewal until 2026, that danger has dissipated.
First as a reserve driver in 2023 and then aboard RB, the Australian was unable to maintain a good level and was left without options at the main team.

Ricciardo seeks energy from resentful attitude in Formula 1
Ricciardo finished eighth in the Canadian Grand Prix to score his first F1 points in a race this year.
Those four points are in addition to the five he picked up at the Miami Sprint, finishing fourth.
“I have to make sure that that energy, probably the resentful attitude that I brought to the weekend, stays there, and keep that level of intensity,” he said.
“I don’t know if it’s the need to be a little bit angry or just to get my testosterone up, but I think it helps me,” the RB driver said.

After a weekend off, Formula 1 returns to action next Friday with practice for the Spanish Grand Prix at the Barcelona circuit.
