Dr. Dre is serious about participating in the 2028 Olympic Games

Dr. Dre has set his sights on competing at the 2028 Los Angeles Olympic Games despite making his name in an entirely different profession.

Viewers of the Olympics will certainly have seen famous rapper Snoop Dogg at the games in Paris over the past few weeks after he was paid by NBC to help promote their coverage by taking part in anything he could find.

Dr. Dre would like to go one better than Snoop Dogg, as he plans to actually compete rather than just attend.

Dre‘s real name is Andre Romell Young and he was a part of the closing ceremony in Paris, with the French organizers officially passing the hosting duties onto Los Angeles for 2028.

Snoop and Dre actually performed alongside one another during the ceremony, and the whole event clearly got under Dre‘s skin.

The 59-year-old is a keen archer and hopes to make Team USA’s archery squad for the Olympics in Los Angeles.

“I’m try’na try out for the Olympics in 2028,” he said, before revealing the sport he’d take up at the Olympics.

“Archery,” he added. “I’m dead ass serious. Yup.”

On his love for archery, he continued: “I actually started playing around with archery in junior high. I stopped for a while, and my son bought me a setup.

“I have it set up in my backyard and I heard qualifying for the Olympics is 77 feet. I practice at 90. Wouldn’t that be interesting?”

Are the USA good at archery?

The USA managed to claim the bronze medal in the mixed team archery competition in Paris so qualifying to get on the team will not be an easy task. South Korea are the dominant force, winning gold in the men’s and mixed tournaments.

The Compton-native took up archery as a hobby a few years ago, with a clip of him teaching Big Boy how to shoot arrows going viral.

There would certainly be some romance to Dre being involved in the Olympics that are hosted in his home city, but there is a lot of work ahead if he is to make that particular dream come true.
