Ruturaj Gaikwad risks BCCI wrath; blasts Services, Umpires over Ankit Bawne’s controversial dismissal

India National Cricket Team batter Ruturaj Gaikwad slammed the umpires for their pathetic decision in the Ranji Trophy 2024-25 between Maharashtra and Services. The match between the two teams is taking place at the Maharashtra Cricket Association Stadium in Pune.

Ruturaj Gaikwad’s comments came following the dismissal of the Maharashtra skipper Ankit Bawne. The incident came during the second innings of the ongoing game after the Services posted a total of 293 in the first innings.

Ankit Bawne was given out even after the ball touched the ground before going into the hands of the fielder

The skipper of Maharashtra, Ankit Bawne, looked in great touch in response to the opposition’s total. He looked in glorious touch and slammed a terrific half-century, his 43rd in FC cricket. With the way he was batting, he was looking all set for a big total but he bagged an unfortunate dismissal.

While batting on 73, Ankit Bawne edged a delivery off left-arm spinner, Amit Shukla. The ball went to the second slip, but it went very low and potentially hit the ground first before going into the hands of the fielder in slips, and the Services team immediately went for the appeal, claiming the catch.

The on-field umpire, however, didn’t take long and adjudged that the ball had carried, terming the batter out. However, with no DRS available in the Ranji Trophy, the batter had to take the long walk to the pavilion and was extremely dejected with the way he got out.

How can this be given out in a live game? Shame to even appeal this for a catch – Ruturaj Gaikwad fumes over dismissal of Ankit Bawne

The replays clearly depicted that it was not out and the ball clearly bounced on its way to Shubham Rohilla. It created a sort of controversy and even saw Maharashtra skipper Ruturaj Gaikwad, who is currently in Australia captaining the India A team, express his displeasure over the dismissal of Ankit Bawne.

Ruturaj Gaikwad took to his Instagram account and lashed out at the umpires as well as the opposition team. He questioned the decision of the opposition team to even appeal for the catch, calling the entire saga as pathetic. He said:

“How can this be given out in a live game? Shame to even appeal this for a catch. Absolutely pathetic.”

Ruturaj Gaikwad struggling to get going with bat in Australia

Gaikwad, who captained Maharashtra in the first few games of the ongoing Ranji Trophy 2024-25, is currently playing for India A in the ongoing tour games. The skipper of the team isn’t having a great outing with the bat in the two games.

Ruturaj Gaikwad failed in the first game and then bagged another low total in the first innings of the ongoing game, which is taking place at the Melbourne Cricket Ground. He was dismissed for a cheap score of four earlier today, to leave his side reeling at 11/4 within the third over of the day.
