Travis Hunter saw his name etched into the history books on Saturday night. The Colorado two-way star won the 2024 Heisman Trophy, earning the most first-place votes over Boise State running back Ashton Jeanty, who had a fair share of fanfare from voters. Hunter was ultimately deserving, as he performed at an elite level both offensively and defensively, which had never really been seen before.
Once his name was announced as the winner, Hunter immediately became emotional, then walked over to Deion and Shedeur Sanders to embrace them. In his speech, Hunter gave a ton of praise to them for changing his life. He thanked just about everyone that has been involved in his life, both personally and football-wise. But there was one moment during his speech that stood out to many fans: he gave a shoutout to Lil Wayne, who was in attendance next to the Sanders family.
Travis Hunter says he never listens to music, other than Lil Wayne
While giving the shoutout to Weezy, Hunter admitted something that truly stunned fans. Hunter said that he didn’t listen to music before his fiancee introduced him to Lil Wayne’s music.
I didn’t know none of your songs until she let me know. Because I don’t listen to music. She told me you gotta listen to this. And from that day on, that’s all I listen to. Pregame music, that’s all I listen to.
It was shocking enough to fans that Hunter hadn’t listened to any Lil Wayne song before, but he says he doesn’t even listen to music in general. That had some fans ready to strip him of the Heisman Trophy.
You start to wonder how Hunter even used to get into game mode before he started listening to music. You always see athletes with headphones on while warming up or arriving to stadiums. At least Hunter found one music artist he can tolerate.
