Thiago Silva injury update: Chelsea star set for extended spell on sidelines

Thiago Silva has enjoyed an excellent season for Chelsea but injury has struck at the wrong time.

The Brazilian suffered knee ligament damage during the Blues‘ 2-0 defeat to Tottenham last month.

Silva’s injury happened at the wrong time for Chelsea

Despite being 38-years-old, Silva has been one of Chelsea’s best players since Graham Potter arrived at Stamford Bridge.

But the centre-back is now set for an extended spell on the sidelines ahead of some big games, including Chelsea’s return to Champions League action against Borussia Dortmund.

How long will Thiago Silva be out for?

Chelsea are set to without Silva for around six weeks.

The former AC Milan star has played 21 Premier League matches this season before he suffered a serious knee injury against Spurs.

Shortly after the match, Chelsea released a statement confirming the problem.

“Having sustained a knee injury during the first half of Sunday’s match against Tottenham Hotspur, Thiago underwent further assessment and a scan on his return to the training centre on Monday.

“Scan results from those assessments have confirmed damage to Thiago’s knee ligaments and he will now work closely with the club’s medical department during his rehabilitation to return to action as soon as possible.”

And Silva’s wife, Belle, revealed in her latest Instagram story the treatment her husband is undergoing.

She claims that the needles dig into the ligament and emit shocks that hurt.

Blues boss Potter has since confirmed ahead of Chelsea’s 1-0 win against Leeds that Silva would be out of action until mid-April.

“Thiago will be around that time (six weeks), not sure exactly.”

Fortunately for Chelsea, Silva won’t actually miss that many games because of the international break.

However, he won’t play any part against Dortmund or in either of the two Premier League matches with Leicester and Everton.

The clash against Liverpool on April 4 should also prove too soon.
