Jalen Hurts is about to lose one of his best weapons: Eagles TE Dallas Goedert could be traded soon

Dallas Goedert holds a secure spot on the Philadelphia Eagles’ roster, but the uncertainty surrounding his contract looms large. The team has the option to exercise the fifth-year clause in his deal, but doing so would result in an $11.8 million salary cap hit-potentially jeopardizing his place with the franchise.

Selected as the 49th overall pick in the 2018 NFL Draft, Goedert has been a consistent force in Philadelphia’s offense, serving as one of quarterback Jalen Hurts’ most reliable targets. However, his tenure with the team is far from guaranteed.

Some analysts argue that if the Eagles were planning to move on from Goedert, they would have selected a tight end in the draft. Yet, with seven tight ends currently on the roster-including two new arrivals from free agency-the possibility of a trade to alleviate salary cap pressure remains open.

    Negotiations are underway

Philadelphia general manager Howie Roseman expressed admiration for Goedert, stating, “Dallas is a heck of a player. A heck of a player, a heck of a person.” However, he declined to provide details on negotiations. “I certainly don’t want to do anything publicly where we’re discussing anyone’s business.”

Roseman acknowledged Goedert’s deep history with the team, recalling their Super Bowl appearances together. “We’ve been to two Super Bowls together, and obviously, we love him on this team. You always love having Dallas on this team,” he said, while stopping short of guaranteeing his return. “We’re not there right now on any of that, but… I love Dallas Goedert.”

    Goedert’s contract and future

The Eagles are engaged in a delicate balancing act as they attempt to retain key players from last season’s Super Bowl-winning squad-a challenge that is proving difficult.

Goedert, for instance, carries a base salary of $1.25 million for 2025, accompanied by a signing bonus of $4.5 million. However, his salary cap hit stands at $11.8 million, with a dead cap figure of $11.1 million. The arrivals of Harrison Bryant and Kylen Granson in free agency further complicate Goedert’s situation, making his path to staying with the team increasingly uncertain.
