Fans online were shocked after former NBA player Lou Williams picked Anthony Edwards over Luka Doncic as his ideal franchise cornerstone. Doncic and Edwards are having the best year of their respective careers, though the LA Lakers have a better record than the Minnesota Timberwolves.
On a recent episode of FanDuel TV’s “Run It Back,” Williams was asked to choose between Doncic and Edwards. The three-time Sixth Man of the Year said that it’s tough to choose between the two superstars, but he picked “Ant-Man” because of his potential.
Thanks for the submission!
“That’s tough, obviously, I like both,” Williams said. “I would say ‘Ant-Man.’ I think he has more potential. Knowing everything that we know, a little younger, the upside is there. Luka’s a better playmaker, can score, but I just like (Edwards) energy. If I’m trying to energize a franchise, trying to energize a fanbase, I would go with ‘Ant-Man.'”

While Lou Williams isn’t wrong for picking Anthony Edwards over Luka Doncic, as it was his personal choice, some fans online are not letting it slide. They couldn’t believe “Lemon Pepper” Lou picked Edwards, who at 24 years old, had led the Minnesota Timberwolves to back-to-back Western Conference finals appearances.
Here are some of the comments on X, formerly known as Twitter.
For context, Luka Doncic is averaging 35.1 points, 8.7 rebounds and 9.2 assists per game this season for the 15-4 LA Lakers. Anthony Edwards, who is signed to a $245 million deal, is putting up 28.9 ppg, 4.5 rpg and 3.9 apg for the 12-8 Minnesota Timberwolves.
Luka Doncic and Austin Reaves making history for Lakers

There’s no denying that Luka Doncic and Austin Reaves are the best backcourt duo in the NBA this season. Doncic is averaging 35.1 ppg, 8.7 rpg and 9.2 apg, while Austin Reaves is putting up career highs of 28.8 ppg, 5.8 rpg and 6.8 apg.
Their chemistry on and off the court has LA Lakers fans smiling from ear to ear. They made history after helping the Lakers beat the New Orleans Pelicans on Sunday. They became just the fourth duo in NBA history to score 30 or more points each for the third straight game.
According to NBA.com, Doncic and Reaves joined Giannis Antetokounmpo and Damian Lillard (2023 Bucks), Monta Ellis and Corey Maggette (2010 Warriors) and George Gervin and Mike Mitchell (1984 Spurs) in the history books. They are also the highest-scoring duo in the league today at 63.9 ppg.
