Daniel Levy told to let Antonio Conte go and replace him with Tim Sherwood at Tottenham

Tim Sherwood can be the man to replace Antonio Conte and give Tottenham a major boost, reckons Teddy Sheringham.

Spurs have gone into the international break with chaos rumbling on behind the scenes following Conte’s stunning rant in his post-match interview following the 3-3 draw with Southampton last weekend.

In these comments, Conte took aim at his players as well as the club’s ownership, leaving his future in serious doubt.

It’s understood that the Italian faces the sack following his comments, leading to question marks over the future direction of the club.

Speaking to Andy Goldstein on talkSPORT Drive, Sheringham said: “What a rant he came out with the other day. I still look at it and people ask me what do you think, but I still don’t know what he means with his rant.

“He talks about the last 20 years of Tottenham, maybe even more than that going back to my time, are you saying that there’s a cancer of the last 30 or 40 years of Tottenham Hotspur?

“I’d have to sit down and ask him what he meant because the only person who has been there for the last 20 years is Daniel Levy.

“The players have changed, the staff have changed and they haven’t won anything, so what are you trying to say? Is it down to the chairman, is he doing the wrong thing?

“All I can see from what Daniel Levy has done is that he’s gone out to try and buy the best and get the best managers in. He’s had Jose Mourinho in and he’s a proven winner. He’s had Conte, a proven winner and it hasn’t happened for whatever reason.”

Former manager Mauricio Pochettino has been heavily linked with the post but Sheringham believes Levy would be well suited going for another former employee of his in Sherwood.

Sheringham added: “I think that the vibe is all wrong at Tottenham. There’s question marks all the time about Conte, is he staying? Is he going?

“He’s only been there two years and it seems to come around every three months about whether he’ll stay or he’ll go. He looks upset and you can’t have that because you need some sort of stability to give you the confidence that you’re there for the long run and you want to make it right.

Sheringham believes that Sherwood, who managed Spurs during the 2013/14 season, would be the ideal person for the job

“If I was to answer the question I’d say to let him go and bring someone else in.

“I’d let him go now and get yesterday’s guest [Tim Sherwood] in. I would. I think you can do a lot worse than getting Tim Sherwood in.

“He’s a man who knows what he wants as a football manager. He’s had a couple of goes, he’s been sacked and he understands the game. If you listen to him talk you know he knows how football works.

“Football minds, he can see who is cheating, who wants the ball and who doesn’t. Get him in charge and get them in shape.”
