Youth talent has been on the rise for years now. The same trend remains intact, and soccer fans should no longer be surprised when players who are teenagers or players in their early-20’s secure a professional roster spot. The girls’ USYNT program is a system that allows emerging stars to elevate their game to the next level. Many stars who are now crucial players for the senior national team made their way through the USYNT system. Here we will take a look at how each USYNT is shaped, some of their achievements, and key players to look out for.
U-15 & U-16 USYNT

Both squads prioritize development and skill growth through camps and international friendlies. In June of last year, the teams went abroad to Europe, trained, and played in a few friendly games. The two teams will return to Europe this year for training camps in Spain.
The U-15 squad are in a unique position as they are gearing up for the 2027 FIFA U-17 Women’s World Cup. Many players at this age group will be eligible to compete in the U-17 World Cup by 2027. This year is critical for the U-15 training staff, coaches, and players to develop a cohesive environment that will set them up for success in the tournament.
Some key players for the U-15 team include Kate Cintron, Aubrey Taylor, and Makenna Misa. As for the U-16 squad, key players include Madison Kline and Isabelle York.
U-17 USYNT

The U-17 USYNT recently competed in the 2025 FIFA U-17 Women’s World Cup last fall, but did not make it out of the Round of 16. A cool thing that will be occurring for the U-17 age group is that the FIFA U-17 Women’s World Cup will be held every year starting from 2025 and onward. Not only will this help players gain international exposure, but it will also motivate younger age groups who are seeking to participate in the tournament once they reach the U-17 level.
Key players for the U-17 team are Nyanya Touray, Mckenna Whitham, and KK Ream.
U-20/23 USYNT

Many players in this age group find themselves moving between the two teams. As a bridge to the senior team, the U-20/U-23 USYNT aims to implement collegiate talent as well as professional development.
This year there will be a FIFA U-20 Women’s World Cup and the U-20 USYNT has already qualified. Fans should keep an eye out on how the team performs in Poland this fall. Players who are likely to be on the roster for this year’s FIFA U-20 Women’s World Cup include Riley Tiernan (Angel City FC), Ainsley McCammon (Seattle Reign), and Katie Scott (Kansas City Current).
