Huge WWE Title tournament announced on SmackDown; First 2 stars announced

WWE didn’t wait until the end of the Cody Rhodes-Drew McIntyre match to determine the next course of action for the Undisputed Title. A huge tournament was announced with four massive matches confirmed for next week.

It seemed very peculiar that numerous stars this week stated their intention to go after the Undisputed WWE Championship. The Miz had an interaction with Carmelo Hayes where he mentioned the Undisputed Title, and then Damian Priest also mentioned getting to Cody Rhodes. Sami Zayn stated that he secretly hoped Drew McIntyre would win the Three Stages of Hell match so he could finally beat him and fulfill his destiny, while Matt Cardona had a very interesting interaction with his good friend Cody Rhodes, telling him that he returned to WWE to become a World Champion. Ilja Dragunov, meanwhile, passed on Carmelo Hayes’ offer for an open challenge, telling him that they will meet again, but for the time being, he had a different idea in mind.

As it turns out, all of this was no coincidence. It was announced that a WWE Championship #1 contender’s tournament will begin next week, starting with Sami Zayn vs Ilja Dragunov. Another match will be Randy Orton vs The Miz, while Damian Priest faces Solo Sikoa. Meanwhile, Matt Cardona will get a chance to advance when he faces the loud-mouthed newcomer, Trick Williams. The winners will face each other in a Fatal-4-Way match and compete for the title at the Royal Rumble in Saudi Arabia.

It’s going to be interesting to see what happens in the tournament. There are a lot of fresh names who could enter the title picture, with every single competitor having a major chip on their shoulder. It’s a stacked field filled with a mixed bunch of experienced stars and newcomers.

Either way, there’s set to be a fresh match-up.
