Dustin Poirier responds with a blunt two-word message to Conor McGregor congratulating him on the birth of his son

Dustin Poirier recently fired off a terse response to Conor McGregor’s congratulatory message on the birth of his son. McGregor had posted a polite comment on Poirier’s Instagram post, congratulating his family, which briefly gave the impression that one of the most heated trilogies in UFC history had finally cooled.

In a recent appearance on The Ariel Helwani Show, Poirier was asked about McGregor’s message, to which he simply replied:

    “F*ck Conor.”

The rivalry between the two fighters stretches back more than a decade and has gone through multiple phases. Their first meeting at featherweight was wrapped in trash talk and confidence from a young McGregor, who knocked Poirier out in less than two minutes.

Years later, the rematch at lightweight carried a surprising tone of mutual respect and culminated in Poirier finishing McGregor for the first knockout loss of the Irishman’s MMA career. Any goodwill between the two vanished soon after a dispute over a charity pledge turned the conversation sour and set the stage for a bitter trilogy fight.

Their third contest ended in chaos when McGregor fractured his leg late in the first round and continued jawing at Poirier and his wife from the canvas. That scene left the rivalry unresolved and fueled speculation about a possible fourth meeting.

In the years since, Poirier has retired, and McGregor drifted from active competition. That being said, the Irishman is gearing up for a potential return and claims that he’s in talks with the UFC.

Dustin Poirier weighs in on who Conor McGregor should face next

Dustin Poirier has weighed in on the growing uncertainty around Conor McGregor’s return and offered a blunt assessment of the possible matchups. For years, the expectation was that McGregor would face Michael Chandler.

However, Poirier noted that Chandler has spent valuable time waiting for a payday that may never arrive. He viewed Chandler as a stylistic layup for McGregor and said a meeting with Jorge Masvidal would be more compelling.

In the aformentioned appearance on The Ariel Helwani Show, he said:

“Conor Masvidal [is a good matchup. I think Masvidal’s slicker on the feet. He can make things happen in there. I think the Chandler fight is a great matchup for Conor. Just the styles. I think it’s a layup. It really is… Conor’s a striker, man. Masvidal is slicker on the feet. He can, for the most part, roll the punches and get in the pocket with Conor a lot better than Chandler will.”

    He added:

“Chandler’s just huge explosive movements that I think Conor is going to time him and hurt him and put him away. Jorge can be slick and move and groove with Conor in there. And Jorge is big and long, you know.”
