Mirra Andreeva vs Maria Sakkari preview

Eighth seed Mirra Andreeva will square off against former top 10 player Maria Sakkari in the second round of the Australian Open 2026.
Andreeca kicked off her run in Melbourne against Donna Vekic. The teenager struck first in the opening set to go 3-1 up. However, she lost five of the next six games to cede the set to her opponent.
The two were evenly matched for most of the second set. However, one loose game by Vekic proved to be costly for her. Andreeva broke her older rival’s serve in the sixth game, the only game in the set with break points for either player, to eventually take the set. She raced to the finish line after that, dishing out a bagel to wrap up a 4-6, 6-3, 6-0 comeback win.
Sakkari opened her campaign in Melbourne against Leolia Jeanjean. The latter had the former on the ropes in the first set after going 4-1 up. Sakkari was quick to flip the script, going on a five-game run to snatch the set from the opponent. Another five-game sweep in the second set helped her register a 6-4, 6-2 win.

Mirra Andreeva vs Maria Sakkari prediction

Andreeva maintained her composure to finish her comeback against Vekic on a dominant note. She won 80 percent of her first deliveries, and hit 28 winners compared to 22 unforced errors. She also extended her winning streak to five matches, having won last week’s Adelaide International. Her record for the year now stands at 7-1.
After a slow start, Sakkari found her range and didn’t let up until the end. She won 72 percent of her first serve points, and struck 27 winners against 19 unforced errors. She improved her record for the season to 3-2, having won two of her three singles ties at the United Cup.
Both players count two fourth-round appearances at the Australian Open as their best results. Sakkari has lost her last 10 matches against top 10 players on hardcourts, and 15 of her last 16 matches against them on the surface. She hasn’t won a match against a top 10 player on hardcourts since March 2024. Her struggles against them, coupled with Andreeva’s current form, makes the teenager the easy choice to win this match.
Pick: Mirra Andreeva to win in straight sets.
