Wolves now interested in £21k-p/w Barcelona ace whose agent is Jorge Mendes

Wolverhampton Wanderers are now showing interest in a Barcelona ace, who recently joined forces with super agent Jorge Mendes.

Wolves eyeing Mendes client despite “relationship cooling”

Speaking last month, former Everton chief executive Keith Wyness suggested Wolves have relied too heavily on Mendes clients during their time in the Premier League, saying: “The relationship I thought was unhealthily close in many ways. I think when Nuno [Espirito Santo] was there, he also had Mendes as his agent.

“And there seemed to be an overreliance on players that were coming through his agency and accepted by Nuno as well, who is also one of his clients. So it did seem to me a real conflict. It would seem to point to that relationship cooling between Fosun, the owners of Wolves, and Jorge Mendes.

Despite a recent uptick in form, with Rob Edwards‘ side collecting six points from their last four games, relegation is still looking inevitable, which indicates Fosun & co got the recruitment wrong during the previous summer transfer window.

It could be difficult to tempt top players to come to Molineux this month, with the Old Gold 14 points behind 17th-placed Nottingham Forest, but they have set their sights on an ambitious transfer target.

That is according to a report from Mundo Deportivo, which states Wolves are showing interest in Barcelona midfielder Marc Casado, who joined forces with Mendes in November of last year.

Manchester United and Atletico Madrid are also keen on the Barca maestro, who would prefer to see out the campaign at the Camp Nou, but if he were to leave, a move abroad would appeal.

Barca manager Hansi Flick rates the central midfielder highly, despite not giving him much game time this season, so it remains to be seen whether a deal will be possible.

“Midfield general” Casado is ambtious target for Wolves

In truth, with Wolves rock bottom of the Premier League table, it doesn’t seem likely a move to Molineux would be of much appeal to the Spaniard, but if they were able to get a deal done, he could be a fantastic addition to Edwards’ squad.

The Barca academy graduate, who has made four Champions League appearances this season, received high praise from scout Jacek Kulig for his La Liga showings during the 2024-25 campaign.

The £21k-a-week ace is also excellent in possession of the ball, averaging a pass-completion rate of 92.1% per 90 over the past year, which places him in the 97th percentile, compared to his positional peers.

Casado could be a top signing for Wolves, but a move does not seem particularly realistic, given their struggles this season.
