Liverpool face a difficult away trip on matchday seven of the UEFA Champions League tomorrow as they take on Ligue 1 side Olympique Marseille at the Orange Velodrome at 20:00 UK time, hoping to keep their chances of a top eight finish alive.
Arne Slot’s men were held by Burnley at home in the Premier League at the weekend, and off the back of their recent performances, the match at Marseille is expected to be a fairly even affair.
Here is how the visiting team could line-up for the game.
Goalkeeper – Alisson Becker is expected to retain his place in between the sticks for Liverpool.
Defenders – Conor Bradley’s injury means another start at right back is in store for Jeremie Frimpong, but Milos Kerkez might continue to rotate on the left side as Andy Robertson is expected to make way into the starting eleven for this game. Meanwhile, Ibrahima Konate and Virgil van Dijk are likely to be the preferred centre-back pairing for Arne Slot once again.
Mac Allister back
Midfielders – Alexis Mac Allister is expected to return having rested from the line-up in Liverpool’s previous fixture. He could partner with Ryan Gravenberch in the double pivot, and therefore allow Dominik Szoboszlai to play a more advanced role. Florian Wirtz is expected to be the number 10 for the visitors off the back of some very good form.
Szoboszlai’s position could change from midfield to that of a right winger, where he has been employed previously, whereas the left flank might continue to belong to Cody Gakpo.
Forward – Hugo Ekitike is expected to be the number nine for Liverpool against Marseille.
Here is how the Reds may look on paper.
