Mumbai Indians (MI) kept themselves alive in WPL 2026 as they beat Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) in the 16th match of the tournament. They beat defending champions by 15 runs at BCA Stadium, Kotambi, Vadodara on Monday. Put into bat, Mumbai posted a massive total of 199 for four, and then restricted Bengaluru to 184 for nine.
Mumbai’s poor woes at the top continued even in this game as Sajeevan Sajana got out early. But, in what was a big positive for them, Hayley Matthews (56) returned to form and hit a brilliant half-century. In a must-win game, Mumbai’s reliable batter Nat Sciver-Brunt (100*) stepped up yet again and registered history.
She slammed the first ever century in WPL that put Bengaluru bowlers under massive pressure. She along with Matthews added a 131-run stand for the second wicket and 42 runs with captain Harmanpreet Kaur (20), making sure Mumbai scored runs at a high run rate in the middle-overs. Thanks to the collective effort, Mumbai posted a massive total of 199 for four.

Grace Harris took RCB off to a flying start, hitting three fours in the second over. But, after that, things changed drastically with Mumbai bowlers making fun of batters. Shabnim Ismail and Hayley Matthews combined and picked five wickets inside power play, leaving Bengaluru at 35 for five.
Richa Ghosh (90) and Nadine de Klerk (28) tried to steady the ship and did that to some extent, adding 42 runs together, but the South African star couldn’t hold the ground for long. On the other hand, Ghosh kept the hopes of Bengaluru fans, slamming a half-century under pressure. However, the target was beyond reach as RCB managed 184 for nine, losing the game by 15 runs.
