LeBron James will be an unrestricted free agent at the end of the season and could contemplate retirement. Hall of Famer and NBA legend Charles Barkley dropped a huge prediction regarding the future of James, who is in Year 23 of his legendary career.
Speaking on “Inside the NBA” on ESPN, Barkley believes that James is playing in his final season with the LA Lakers. He wants to see “King James” finish his career with the Cleveland Cavaliers. He’s not even going to be shocked if he gets traded to the Cavs at the Feb. 5 deadline.
Thanks for the submission!
“I think you got to be impressed with what he’s accomplishing at 41,” Barkley said. “Well, there’s one thing I’m sure of. This is his last year with the Lakers. He’s not gonna play with the Lakers next year.”

Charles Barkley added that LeBron James deserves a farewell tour and has earned the right to have one. James is considered one of the greatest players of all time, and he’s even The GOAT for some people over Michael Jordan.
At 41 years old, James is averaging his lowest points per game since his rookie year. He has shown signs of slowing down, which is understandable. He missed the first 14 games of the season due to sciatica.
Nevertheless, the four-time NBA champion is doing his part for the LA Lakers and their quest to win another title. They are in a loaded Western Conference, with a very mediocre defense. They could get away with it in the regular season, but it could doom them in the playoffs.
LeBron James still undecided about his future
With the possibility of changing teams next season, some are also considering that LeBron James could be retiring at the end of the campaign. James has nothing left to prove, though it’s always up to him when he wants to hang it up.
Speaking to reporters after the LA Lakers’ blowout loss to the Cleveland Cavaliers on Wednesday, James is unsure about his future. He would cherish every road game this season, but he’s still undecided.
“Live in the moment and just not take for granted the opportunity of being present, especially in year 23,” James said. “I could very easily think about the future… I think it’s more of a precedent for me to kind of just be present in the moment, no matter win, lose or draw.”
LeBron James was emotional after the Cavaliers surprised him with a tribute video in the middle of the game. He received a warm welcome inside the Rocket Arena, as did his son, Bronny James.
