Nick Reiner’s alleged ex-roommate, Danny Svilar, has opened up about him, alleging violence and hatred towards his parents. He claimed that as soon as he got to know about Rob Reiner and Michele Singer’s murder, he “knew exactly who it was”.
Rob and Michele were found dead in their house in Los Angeles on December 14 last year. Their son, Nick Reiner, has been arrested and is now facing two charges of first-degree murder. His trial is set to begin this year.
Amidst this, a former roommate of Nick Reiner, Danny Svilar, gave an interview with the Daily Mail, published on January 20. Svilar reportedly shared a room with Nick at a rehab facility in Malibu, California, when the latter was just 15. Svilar claimed that he was a shopping addict and was sent to the facility in 2009.
Meanwhile, Nick has been open about his struggles with drug addiction and schizophrenia over the years and has spent time in rehab. Danny Svilar made numerous allegations against him in the interview, claiming that he “hated” his parents’ fame. He said that Rob and Michele “did everything they could” to help him.
Perez Hilton, meanwhile, has reacted to this interview on his website, explaining:
“A lot to take in… It’s important to note that while this person’s experience may very well be true, that was back when Nick was a teenager. It’s not uncommon for kids that age to say they “hate” their parents. Nick is 32 now, and close family sources all believed he had been sober and doing very well in the months leading up to the chilling crimes.”
He added that an insider reported that a change in medication allegedly led to Nick’s “concerning behavior”, leading to the alleged murders.
More from Danny Svilar’s interview about Nick Reiner

Danny Svilar claimed multiple times that Nick Reiner “hated” his parents’ fame and had a lot of suppressed anger, saying:
“He just had really oppressed anger towards the fame. I don’t know how it is having a father with that level of fame, but regardless of that, Nick had no sense of gratitude, no sense of appreciation. He was just a f**king pompous little punk… he just wanted to be out, smoking pot, doing pills, doing whatever, and his family just wanted him to get help.”
Svilar explained that when he first met Nick Reiner, he seemed funny and welcoming but “could flip” instantly. He added that they spent hours talking in their room, adding that he “hated” his parents without cause. He asserted that Rob Reiner and Michele Singer did everything, including being at “every family group and therapy session”.
Svilar also explained what led to the breakup in their friendship. He said that he compared Nick to Jett, John Travolta’s son Jett, who died in 2009 at 16.
“I compared him to looking like John Travolta’s son that died, and that set him off. We had good rapport at first, but then I was like ‘oh my god, that’s who you remind me of’. It kind of turned ugly after that… He definitely tried to get aggressive with me. He tried to get physical, and then a tech had to step in… He was getting into my face and raising a fist,” Svilar said.
Svilar further asserted that Nick Reiner “is not insane”, adding that he should not be allowed to “plead this guilty or not guilty by insanity”. He consistently asserted that he believes Nick killed his parents and added that Rob and Michele “were great”.
