Hope Solo, one of the most famous and controversial goalkeepers in the history of women’s soccer, is preparing to put on her gloves again and compete at the age of 44.
The former soccer player will join the high-profile The Soccer Tournament (TST), a seven-a-side soccer tournament with unconventional rules and high prize money, which will take place in the summer in Cary, North Carolina.
The Mixed Team Tennis will pay one million dollars to the winner of its men’s and women’s competitions.
It was a great opportunity to come back and be competitive, and don’t get me wrong, to do it for $1 million
The mixed tournament will feature 16 teams, and half of the spots are already filled.
Hope Solo, who in 2017 accused Blatter of sexual harassment, will take part in the competition, as will actors Ryan Reynolds and Rob McElhenney, owners of Wrexham.
Hope Solo aims to win two million: “TST has set an incredible standard of equal pay”
Hope Solo, World Cup champion and two-time Olympic gold medalist, will compete in the mixed and women’s competition (with her Solo FC team).
I want to be the first team to win $2 million with Solo FC’s women’s and mixed teams. I want to make history
“Jon Mugar (founder of TST) has set an incredible standard of equal pay, and that’s what I fought for my whole career, but I never got it when I was playing. This was a great opportunity to come back and be competitive, and don’t get me wrong, do it for $1 million,” Hope Solo explained in comments reproduced by The Athletic.
Hope Solo, who already competed in the 2025 TST, said: “I want to be the first team to win $2 million with Solo FC’s women’s and mixed teams. I want to make history.”
The TST will be held from May 27 to June 1 at WakeMed Soccer Park in Cary, North Carolina.
In 2025, 16 teams took part in TST, which achieved a record attendance of 51,730 spectators.
Almost 2,000 players from 34 countries competed in the men’s and women’s categories, with entries from clubs such as Atletico Madrid, Inter Milan, Club America, Borussia Dortmund, West Ham United and Bayern Munich.
Hope Solo and her alcohol problems that have destroyed half her life: “I plead guilty”
In 2022, a body camera worn by a police officer shows the moment soccer player Hope Solo was pulled from the car in which her twin children (Lozen and Vittorio) were sitting and arrested in a daze in the parking lot of a Walmart supermarket in Winston-Salem, North Carolina.
The footballer reportedly fainted at the wheel and had been sitting in the car with the engine running for more than an hour.
Hope Solo refused to take the breathalyzer test, so she was taken to the Forsyth County Jail. After taking the test, the goalkeeper tripled the maximum allowed.
This arrest occurred on March 31, 2022, and Hope Solo was sentenced to 30 days in jail after being charged with driving while intoxicated, resisting a public officer and misdemeanor child abuse.
The media-savvy goalkeeper did not go to prison and served the sentence by spending a month in a rehabilitation treatment: “I will voluntarily enter an alcohol treatment program to address my alcohol problems.”
“It was the biggest mistake of my life,” Hope Solo later admitted of her arrest.
