A former WWE Cruiserweight Champion has revealed his feelings after getting released by the Stamford-based promotion in 2008. He recently claimed that he was injured when the company let him go.
In a recent appearance on Cafe de Renee with Rene Dupree, former World Tag Team Champion Paul London revealed that he almost felt relieved after being released from WWE. London also shared that he was dealing with a back injury when he received a call from John Laurinaitis telling him that his contract would not be renewed.
Thanks for the submission!
“I do remember feeling very angry and embarrassed for them, they handled it like that, you know. It was almost like, I don’t know, there was a big feeling of relief over me too, where it was kind of like being unchained and you’re like, ‘Okay, I can walk as far as I want, I have movement, I can smell.’ Like it took me a while to to smell again and to taste things again like it really took a while for me to regain a lot of my senses,” he said.
Following his release from WWE, London continued wrestling in the independent circuit, including companies such as ROH, Pro Wrestling Guerrilla, and, later, Impact Wrestling in 2019.
Paul London claims former WWE executive hated him for making a pitch
In the same conversation, London claimed that the former WWE Head of Talent Relations, John Laurinaitis, hated him for pitching that the company should send him to film school.
He claimed that he could have worked in the company’s movie department at the time as an in-house writer and director, and suggested that wrestlers should have cameo appearances in movies to save costs.
Laurinaitis allegedly “hated” London for pitching the idea and told him that he felt he was more aligned with filmmaking during the call on which he was released.
