Since Hytale is in the early access phase, its development team is gradually adding massive new features to strengthen the game’s core mechanics. Next week, the third major update of the game will drop, featuring a basic form of taming. Taming animals is an important part of any survival game.
Different games have different taming mechanics. As for Hytale, they have taken inspiration from Minecraft, but still manage to make it unique. Here is a short and simple taming guide for the game.
Steps to tame animals in Hytale
1) Find and interact with an animal
When you enter your world and roam around, you will find all kinds of creatures, particularly animals. Most animals will run away from you when you approach them, while others can occasionally attack you.
However, once you interact with them by pressing ‘F’, a thought bubble will show up on top of their heads, showing that they want a specific food item. For example, horses and rabbits want carrots, pigs want turnips, cows and sheep want cabbage, chickens want corn, bison want cauliflower, boars want pumpkin, camels want tomatoes, etc.
2) Find the food item to tame the specific animal
After knowing which animal eats what food item, you need to explore the world and find it. You will be able to find various raw food items growing in the plains biome. However, some particular vegetables will be hard to obtain. Hence, you can gradually build a base and start a farm to grow more of these rare vegetables.
Carrot and wheat are two of the most common vegetables, while others can be slightly harder to find.
3) Feed and interact with the tamed animal
After you find the correct food item for a specific animal, you can feed it to tame it. As of now, every animal only needs one unit of food to be tamed.
Once the animal is tamed, they will not run away from you, but neither follow you everywhere like cats and wolves in Minecraft. Instead, they will only follow you when you have their favorite food item in your hand. Additionally, you can pet them, after which a heart particle will appear on top of them.
