If you were active in the gaming community from 2020 to 2022, you would probably have heard of Hyperscape. The battle royale from Ubisoft gained strong early momentum and drew plenty of attention at its launch. However, its success did not last long, and the servers were officially shut down in 2022.
Even before the shutdown, the game had stopped receiving major updates. While Hyperscape did not introduce enough standout features to separate itself from other battle royale titles in the long run, it built a small but dedicated player base that was disappointed to see it go.
Recently, a short gameplay clip surfaced on X, showing what appears to be a brief Hyperscape run. The video quickly sparked discussion among former players and renewed their interest in the title. Naturally, many are wondering whether there is any chance of the game’s return.
In short, the battle royale multiplayer experience is not returning, at least in any official capacity. Ubisoft hasn’t released any official statement addressing the recently surfaced gameplay clip either. Let’s take a closer look at the situation.
Will Hyperscape return?
As mentioned earlier, speculations about the return of Hyperscape began after a gameplay clip was shared by a user named Fiirce (@fiirce) on X. The one-minute-and-forty-eight-second video, caption-titled “Hyperscape Revival,” quickly caught the attention of former players and sparked fresh discussion within the community. The post has gained strong engagement, and it had this as the caption:
“Hyperscape Revival. Game feels exactly as I left it (perfect). Singleplayer works for now, will be a while before anything multiplayer works (could be months or even years). Early alpha/private for now. Reach out to me if you have reverse engineering experience and want to help.”
From the statement, it is clear that this is a fan-led project. Additionally, Fiirce is actively looking for more contributors to help build toward a playable release. At the same time, Ubisoft has not made any official comment on the matter. Moreover, there is also the possibility that the publisher could intervene, as similar situations have occurred in the past, such as with Paragon: The Overprime.
One thing that seems certain for now is that the original battle royale multiplayer experience isn’t going to be officially reopened to players anytime soon. However, regardless of the lack of any statement from Ubisoft, the resurfaced gameplay has certainly brought Hyperscape back into the limelight.
