“There’s no need for the animosity” – Nico Carrillo says rivalry with Shadow should be an example for everybody

Newly crowned ONE interim featherweight Muay Thai world champion ‘King of the North’ Nico Carrillo of Scotland has shown the utmost respect for opponent Shadow Singha Mawynn after the pair’s explosive five-round war at ONE Fight Night 40: Buntan vs. Hemetsberger II over the weekend.

Carrillo eked out a close unanimous decision victory to capture the ONE interim featherweight Muay Thai world title in the evening’s co-main event, and he wants everyone to use his rivalry with the Thai star as a shining example of how fight buildups should be.

Speaking to the media in the official ONE Fight Night 40 on Prime Video post-fight interviews backstage, Carrillo said he always knew he and Shadow would cross paths:

“There’s never any bad blood and there never has to be because I see all this bad blood and anxiety in the hotel staring at each other trying to hate each other, there’s no need for that. On fight day, we’re both going to go in and do what we’ve been training to do, take each other’s heads off, so there’s no need for the animosity before or after. I believe that me and Shadow should be an example for everybody.”

‘King of the North’ Nico Carrillo knows to show respect to his opponents after he beats them, and it was no different after he defeated Thai star Shadow Singha Mawynn at ONE Fight Night 40: Buntan vs. Hemetsberger II on Prime Video.

    Carrillo told the media:

“Yeah. Listen, I’ve always been a fan of Shadow when he was at other promotions. Then he came here, and then when he was in ONE Friday fights, I’d been signed to ONE Championship, and he came up, he was asking me for pictures, and we always knew we’d cross paths. You know what I mean? Even after the Sitthichai fight, he came up, and we were taking pictures, and we were like, ‘Oh, me and you are going to fight.’”
