The West Indies started the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2026 Super 8 stage on a bang. They thrashed Zimbabwe by a massive margin of 107 runs at the Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai on Monday. Put into bat, the West Indies piled up a big total of 254 for six, and then ended Zimbabwe’s innings on 147.
West Indies lost their openers Brandon King and Shai Hope early, but what unfolded after that was absolute mayhem from the batters. Shimron Hetmyer (85) looked in beast mode today, going after the bowlers right from the word go.
He hit a 19-ball half-century to set the tone, while Rovman Powell (59) started a bit slow. But once he regained his touch, he also looked a class apart. The Hetmyer-Powell duo added 122 runs for the third wicket.
Their partnership set the tone for a big total as Sherfane Rutherford (31*) and Romario Shepherd (21) finishedon a high, powering West Indies to the total of 254 for six.
WI vs ZIM: West Indies bowlers wreck havoc acorss Zimbabwe batters
In the chase, Zimbabwe were jolted early as Brian Bennett, Tadiwanashe Marumani and Ryan Burl all got at 20. Dion Myers (28) tried to counter-attack but perished in the seventh over as Zimbabwe were left reeling at 52 for four.
Sikandar Raza (27) tried to bail his side out of trouble, but West Indies hardly put a foot wrong, taking wickets at regular intervals. Brad Evans (43) played a decent hand but the target was beyond reach.
Gudakesh Motie picked four wickets as West Indies bundled out Zimbabwe for 147 to win the game by 107 runs.
