This means that roughly once every three fish caught, you will catch a fish with the Lost Mutation. The Mutation causes the affected fish to shine a bright green.
The Lost Mutation applies a 4.5x value multiplier to the affected fish, which is fairly on-par with an early- to mid-game Mutation. Other Mutations, such as Harmonized, hover around the 3x to 5x multiplier range. What’s interesting is that on release, this Mutation had a notably higher multiplier associated with it, sitting at 5.5x. However, with the Mutation rebalancing that accompanied update 1.58, the multiplier was nerfed to its current value.
Outside of The Lost Rod, there are no other ways to get this Mutation. You can make this fishing rod by bringing the following items to the Ancient Archives:
- 3x Lapis Lazuli: Has a 4.1% chance of being acquired in a Meteor. May also be obtained from the Personal Aquarium.
- 3x Ancient Wood: Available in the waters around Sunstone Island as a Legendary-rarity catch.
- 1x Ancient Thread: Minute chance to be acquired through fishing anywhere. May be acquired through Treasure Chests and the Personal Aquarium as well.
There is no monetary requirement, so if you happen to have these items, you can get The Lost Rod immediately at the Ancient Archives. The Lost Rod is not particularly special at anything, barring the Mutation, so for general fishing purposes, you are better off relying on a mid-game rod instead.
