Mexica police yesterday arrested Kenyan Wilfred Nyatogo, winner of the 2026 Lala Marathon, in Guadalupe, Zacatecas, on an arrest warrant for alleged rape.
The Attorney General’s Office of the State of Zacatecas reported on the arrest of Wilfred Nyatogo “N” , an athlete of Kenyan origin who last Sunday, March 1, won the 37th edition of the Lala Marathon in the Comarca Lagunera.
Reports indicate that the, the arrest took place on March 5 in the municipality of Guadalupe, Zacatecas, pursuant to an arrest warrant for the crime of rape. The athlete was located by the Investigative Police, who subsequently turned him over to a judge to determine his legal status.
The Prosecutor’s Office has not released details about the complainant who led to the arrest warrant, nor the date on which the alleged events occurred. However, authorities confirmed that the case is already in the judicial process.
Wilfred Nyatogo will remain in custody while the thewheels of justice move and reiterated that, according to the law, every person is presumed innocent until proven otherwise by a sentence issued by a judge.
Nyatogo wasa rrested just four days after being declared the winner of the 2026 Lala Marathon , one of the most important long-distance races in northern Mexico. The runner crossed the finish line in approximately 2 hours and 18 minutes , surpassing Mexican competitors who completed the podium.
Wilfred Nyatogo had been participating in athletic competitions in Mexico for several years. Among his most outstanding results were first place in the 2023 León Marathon and second place in the 2024 Lala Marathon.
