Cricket West Indies confirm safe return of T20 World Cup 2026 squad

Cricket West Indies (CWI) has confirmed that all members of the West Indies national cricket team squad that participated in the T20 World Cup 2026 in India have safely returned home. The update came after logistical issues related to charter flights arranged by the International Cricket Council (ICC), which resulted in delays for the travelling players and support staff.

CWI eventually managed to arrange commercial travel for the squad earlier in the week to ensure their return. Confirming the development in an official release, CWI stated that all members of the squad and team management unit had now reached their respective destinations safely.

“Cricket West Indies (CWI) wishes to advise that, as of Saturday, all players and members of the Team Management Unit (TMU) who were part of the West Indies Men’s squad at the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup in India have returned home safely,” the statement stated.

The statement further explained that the delays were caused due to cancellations involving the chartered flights initially coordinated by the ICC. However, alternative travel arrangements helped the team complete their journey without further complications.

“Following the previously outlined challenges relating to cancellations of chartered flights coordinated by the International Cricket Council (ICC), commercial travel was successfully secured for the members of the squad earlier this week. The final group of players and support staff completed their journeys over the past several days and have now safely arrived at their respective destinations,” the statement added.

CWI also expressed gratitude to the ICC, regional cricket boards, and other stakeholders who assisted in ensuring the safe return of the players and support staff. Earlier, the board had confirmed that it had arranged commercial travel for the squad after repeated delays in the charter flight meant to transport both the West Indies and South African teams from the Indian surface.

CWI also noted that travel and accommodation logistics for teams participating in ICC events are typically handled by the global governing body.

It was a disappointing end to a pretty impressive T20 World Cup 2026 campaign by the Shai Hope-led side, as they were eliminated from the Super 8 stage of the competition after showing immense promise as a contender for the semi-finals of the twenty-team tournament.
