☝️ The No. 1 seeds
👿 Duke Blue Devils (East): The No. 1 overall seed came tantalizingly close to an undefeated season — their two losses were by a combined four points. Led by freshman phenom Cameron Boozer, the Blue Devils’ only weakness is the absence of guard Caleb Foster, who broke his foot on March 7th. Legendary coaches abound in their region, but head coach (HC) Jon Scheyer can hang with the best.
🐱 Arizona Wildcats (West): They suffered just two narrow losses in the basketball-crazed Big 12, winning the regular-season and tournament titles. Their biggest advantage? Well, being big: Their frontcourt features four players over 6-foot-7. But the Wildcats’ path to the Final Four will be tough with No. 2 Purdue, No. 3 Gonzaga, and No. 4 Arkansas lurking in their region.
〽️ Michigan Wolverines (Midwest): Pundits love the Wolverines, who won the regular-season crown in the cutthroat Big Ten by a wide margin. They’re accurate and aggressive shooters, and only the top teams managed to score more than 70 points on Michigan’s defense. They did stumble in the conference tournament ’ship last Sunday, but the setback might make them more dangerous.
🐊 Florida Gators (South): The reigning national champs had a harder time proving their elite status: The SEC wasn’t as strong as it has been in recent years, and the Gators earned only six top-25 wins compared to Duke and Arizona’s 12. That said, their big men are absurdly good — forward Rueben Chinyelu is one of the nation’s top rebounders. Chomp chomp.

🚂 No. 2 Purdue Boilermakers (West): A men’s hoops powerhouse, Purdue was the country’s top-ranked team until their first loss, a December 6th blowout against then–No. 10 Iowa State. This team is streaky, typically falling into and then rebounding from multi-game skids. But when they’re hot, they’re hot, and star point guard Braden Smith could make them a serious title threat.
🐆 No. 2 Houston Cougars (South): They say defense wins championships, and last year’s runner-up has it in spades. They were tripped up in regular-season Big 12 conference play, falling to Arizona, No. 2 Iowa State, No. 4 Kansas, and No. 5 Texas Tech — all elite teams that could make the Final Four — but that level of competition has them battle-hardened for a deep run.
🐶 No. 3 Gonzaga Bulldogs (West): Although the Bulldogs suffered some bad losses and escaped with too-close-for-comfort wins this season, they have all the tools to compete in the perilous West region. Longtime HC Mark Few’s squads are always dangerous come March, especially this veteran roster led by double-double machine Graham Ike.
🧡 No. 3 Virginia Cavaliers (Midwest): The ’Hoos are showing signs of a late-season surge: Duke destroyed them by 26 points on February 28th, but Virginia only lost to them by four in the ACC title game last week. Never underestimate the power of a fierce defense.

🦅 Miami (Ohio)’s controversial bid: The RedHawks went undefeated in the regular season, an impressive feat even though they had one of the easiest schedules in college basketball.
