Sources close to Fox Sports Australia have confirmed the move, marking another step in Hickey’s rise after a career-best season with the Illawarra Hawks.

Despite an eye injury that delayed his start until Round 7, Hickey produced standout numbers in a challenging year for the Hawks. He averaged career highs across the board, posting 12.7 points, 5.9 rebounds and 6.3 assists per game.

He also brings prior NBA pathway experience, having featured for the Chicago Bulls during the 2025 NBA Summer League, where he appeared in three games.

South Bay currently sit second in the Western Conference with a 22–9 record and have already secured a playoff berth with five games remaining in the regular season. Hickey is expected to share the floor with Bronny James, although James was recently recalled to the Los Angeles Lakers. There remains a chance he returns to South Bay for the playoffs.

Hickey joins a growing list of Australians in the NBA G League, with Rocco Zikarsky, Akoldah Gak and Lachlan Olbrich among those currently featuring in the competition when they’re not being called up to the NBA.

The club as confirmed that Hickey will wear No.7 on his jersey for South Bay. He is expected to suit up and debut against Grand Rapids Gold this Saturday.

Hickey will spend the off-season with the Lakers but is set to return to the Hawks for the 2026–27 season, with two years still remaining on his contract.
