Liverpool making moves to sign “unbelievable” £100m Newcastle star with his camp now working on summer exit

Liverpool have been in discussions to sign an “unbelievable” Premier League star this summer, with his camp now working on a move.

Reds stepping up pursuit of Newcastle star

Unlike Newcastle United, who exited the Champions League on Wednesday night, as a result of an 8-3 aggregate defeat against Barcelona, the Reds managed to book their place in the quarter-finals.

Arne Slot‘s side did it in emphatic fashion too, blowing Galatasaray away with a 4-0 victory at Anfield, and the manager was left very pleased by his side’s performance, saying: “From start to finish, I think we played the game I was hoping for, the players were hoping for and I was hoping for. Not only did we play the perfect game from start to finish but out fans did as well.

“From the start they were not accepting what we thought would happen and what happened which is that they would create a situation where the energy would run out of the stadium by making sure there was not much playing time.”

The Merseysiders haven’t been quite as impressive for large parts of the Premier League campaign, currently sitting in fifth place, but they are still in a strong position to qualify for the Champions League next season, which should give them an advantage over ninth-placed Newcastle in the transfer market.

Interestingly, one of Eddie Howe’s most important players’ camp have been speaking with other Premier League clubs ahead of the summer transfer window, and Liverpool have now emerged as potential suitors.

“Unbelievable” Newcastle star now in talks to leave

According to a report from TEAMtalk, Newcastle are now concerned about Sandro Tonali’s future, and Liverpool have held talks about signing the Italian midfielder within the past month, alongside Chelsea, Manchester City, Arsenal and Manchester United.

Any deal will be very expensive, with the Magpies setting an asking price of £100m, which means a return to Italy could be off the table, despite the likes of Inter Milan and Juventus also expressing an interest.

Midfield partner Bruno Guimaraes has spoken very highly of the 25-year-old, saying last season: “He went through a difficult moment in his career but he’s always been positive. He’s an unbelievable player and a really amazing guy.”

The maestro played an instrumental role in Newcastle qualifying for the Champions League last term, making 36 Premier League appearances, and providing four goals and two assists.

Jamie Carragher has stressed the importance of Liverpool bringing in a new midfielder this summer, with the former defender not entirely convinced by Alexis Mac Allister, and having already proven himself in the Premier League, Tonali could be the ideal addition to Slot’s squad.
