Sunrisers Hyderabad Blow as Jack Edwards Ruled Out of IPL

Sunrisers Hyderabad’s all-rounder Jack Edwards has been ruled out of the IPL 2026. The Australia international has played only one T20I in his career but impressed head coach Daniel Vettori and skipper Pat Cummins which led to Hyderabad buying him for INR 3 crore in the auction. Meanwhile, he has played 77 T20 games and scored 853 runs at a strike rate of 121.50 and has taken 52 wickets at a rate of 8.32 runs.

On the other hand, Edwards became the second cricketer to get injured in the Hyderabad camp. He is currently nursing a back injury and will miss the first few games of the season (ibid). Ishan Kishan will lead the side in the absence of Cummins, with Abhishek Sharma named as his deputy.

Multiple pacers ruled out of IPL 2026

Three cricketers have pulled out of the IPL 2026 on March 19. The list includes Chennai Super Kings’ Nathan Ellis and Rajasthan Royals’ Sam Curran. A third IPL 2026 season match with an issue and three cricketers who have opted out of the IPL 2026 were named on March 19, including Chennai Super Kings’ Nathan Ellis and the Rajasthan Royals’ Sam Curran.

CSK CEO Kasi Vishwanathan has already confirmed Ellis’ exit from the competition and noted that the franchise is currently in hunt for a replacement. They are very close to signing Ottoneil Baartman, who is reportedly weighing terminating his Pakistan Super League contract. He has signed for Hyderabad-based franchise at a price of PKR 1.1.

Should Baartman eventually pull out, he will become the third cricketer after Corbin Bosch and Blessing Muzarabani to cancel their PSL contract and sign contracts with IPL.

On the contrary, Hyderabad and Rajasthan are currently in the search of an overseas all-rounder. However, it will not be surprising if Hyderabad ends up signing an overseas pacer since their pace bowling lacks depth in the absence of Cummins. They could look at the likes of Spencer Johnson and Gerald Coetzee.
