Gate to the Otherworld is a part of the Forbidden Knowledge questline in Crimson Desert’s Chapter 4. It requires you to help a scholar named Octavius with his experiment. However, things don’t go as smoothly as one would hope for, and ultimately lead to the Tenebrum boss battle.
The quest isn’t very complicated, but there are a few parts that can be confusing. This guide will walk you through every aspect of the Gate to the Otherworld quest in Crimson Desert and help you complete it as quickly as possible.
How to activate the lock device switch underground in Crimson Desert

Upon reaching the Scholastone Institute, you’ll hear Octavius delivering a speech before starting the experiment. If the game asks you to wait for the right time, simply use the pop-up on the right side of your screen to skip time. After hearing the speech, you’ll need to unlock the device.
Head to the right side of where Octavius was delivering his speech to find stairs leading under the device. Right beneath the dome, there’s an open space where you’ll find a stone puzzle that activates the device.
Device switch puzzle order

The puzzle features a 3×3 grid of stones that you can interact with. Your goal is to light up all the pieces to activate the lock device. However, interacting with one also activates all vertical and horizontal stones, which can make the process a little confusing. Follow the steps below to solve the puzzle quickly:
- Start by pressing the stones in alternating corners. Either top-left and bottom-right, or top-right and bottom-left.
- Then interact with the remaining set of alternating corners to activate all four cornerstones.
- Lastly, press the middle stone to power up the entire grid.
Once you’re done, it’ll unlock the hand, which you can use to activate the lock device. If you made a mistake while solving the puzzle, simply back out, and it will reset the grid.
How to use Axiom Force to remove the Unstable Core in Crimson Desert

Head back upstairs to power up the device. As soon as you return to the topside, interact with the floating batteries and insert them into the adjacent pillars using Axiom Force. On PC, press Tab to activate the ability and grant the battery.
For PlayStation controllers, press the L3 button to activate the ability, and for Xbox controllers, use the Left Stick. There are four pillars you need to power up. Take the batteries near each one and use Force Push to slot them in. Following a cutscene, you’ll now need to remove the Unstable Core. Use the Axiom Force once again to yank the core and spawn the Tenebrum boss.
How to beat Tenebrum in Crimson Desert

The Tenebrum boss fight in Crimson Desert isn’t difficult, but it requires you to use in-game gimmicks. Use Blinding Flash to reveal its weakness and make your attacks more effective. As soon as the boss spawns, it’ll start shooting block projectiles towards you. Dodge or use the pillars to hide from the attacks.
To counter the Tenebrum, activate your Glide ability. The gust of wind will allow you to float upwards for aerial combat. Once you get close enough, use Force Palm to damage the boss. Note that Tenebrum will not stop shooting at you and will try to knock you out. Maneuver around to dodge the projectiles and try to hit the boss when it’s in close proximity.
