Swerve Strickland failed in his quest to become the new AEW EVP. Following that, he dropped a reaction on social media.
The opening match of the March 25 episode of Dynamite saw the highly anticipated rematch between Swerve Strickland and Kenny Omega. As per the pre-agreed stipulations, Omega’s EVP status was on the line against Strickland’s title shot at the AEW World Championship.
The two top stars tore each other apart with hard-hitting punches and moves in the high-stakes showdown. In the final moments of the bout, Omega hit Strickkland with a second V-Trigger in the ring corner and followed it up with a One-Winged Angel to score the three-count.
As a result, Omega became the new No.1 contender for the AEW World Championship. As for Strickland, he took to his X later on to drop an angry snapshot of himself from the match.
Swerve Strickland wants to main event AEW’s premier event
One of the biggest matches in Swerve Strickland’s AEW career has been his main event bout against Bryan Danielson for the Men’s World Championship at All In 2024. The Mogul recently stated that he hoped to headline the event again this year, which is set to return to Wembley Stadium in London.
“Oh, you know the aim is always the main event, you know. Now that I like tasted the main event there you know that’s truly the addiction right now. Trying to get back to main event, try to like once again. I was always talking about evolving. So, this evolution of Swerve, going back to the main event of a Wembley Stadium is always going to be the goal.”
While Strickland might have missed out on a chance to challenge for the World Championship now, it remains to be seen if he could get back in the title picture by the time All In is upon the AEW landscape.
