“Here at ONE Championship, we have the best” – Tye Ruotolo dares the Tackett brothers to prove themselves on the global stage

Tye Ruotolo has already floated the idea of a Ruotolos versus Lees showdown. Now he has another blockbuster proposal in his back pocket.

The ONE welterweight submission grappling world champion successfully defended his 26 pounds of gold for the third time at ONE Fight Night 41: Sinsamut vs. Jarvis on Prime Video on Friday, March 13, edging IBJJF no-gi world champion Pawel Jaworski via unanimous decision in the co-main event inside Bangkok’s legendary Lumpinee Stadium.

Fresh off that hard-fought title defense, the 23-year-old Roots of Jiu Jitsu representative has been thinking big about potential future matchups.

With the Lee family already in his sights, Ruotolo revealed another dream scenario in an interview with Nick Atkin — one that involves another set of elite grappling brothers.

The California native issued a direct challenge to the Tackett brothers, amongst the most decorated grapplers in the sport outside of ONE Championship.

“Then if not the Lees, maybe the Tacketts [William and Andrew]. I don’t know how difficult it is to get those cats. They are always talking about wanting to fight the best, and here at ONE Championship, we have the best,” Tye Ruotolo told Atkin.

“So, if they want to fight, then let’s get it going. Maybe not fight, you want a match? It would be epic. And would love to grapple you guys. It’s been a long time,” Ruotolo added.

    The callout carries genuine weight.

The Tacketts have built formidable reputations on the international grappling circuit, but ONE’s submission grappling division represents the deepest, most competitive pool of talent on the planet — and Tye Ruotolo, alongside twin brother, ONE lightweight submission grappling world champion Kade Ruotolo, is sitting at the very top of it.

Whether it is the Lees or the Tacketts, the Californians’ appetite for the biggest possible matchups is impossible to ignore.

His 9-0 submission grappling record under the ONE banner speaks for itself, and if anyone wants to stake a claim to being the best in the world, the reigning ONE welterweight submission grappling world champion has made it abundantly clear where that conversation needs to happen.
