A WWE Hall of Famer has defended Vince McMahon. The former CEO of the Stamford-based promotion faced a number of allegations during his tenure, and one of them nearly put him out of business.
In the 90s, Vince and WWE were taken to court over the use of steroids by its performers. It was alleged that Vince was the one asking the wrestlers to use the banned substances in order to bulk up.
Thanks for the submission!
Over the years, there has been a long-standing criticism of him, and he has been held responsible for the deaths of many wrestlers due to substance abuse. However, Hall of Famer D-Von Dudley has pushed back on the idea.
Speaking to VLAD TV in an interview, the decorated tag team star said the responsibility of what wrestlers did with their bodies didn’t lie with Vince McMahon.
“In my opinion, you allow yourself to do what you do to your body. There were guys in WWE at the time who didn’t take steroids. There were guys at the time in WWE who didn’t do drugs and things like that. If you allow yourself to do it, you can’t blame the promoter. He didn’t force you to take it,” he said.
He said if wrestlers did use steroids, it was for their own look; the promoter cannot be blamed for it.
“I get what New Jack is saying or what he said, but at the same token, no one forced that needle in the back of your a** to get big. It wasn’t like he told you you had to do it,” he said.
D-Von Dudley said he was disgusted by controversial Vince McMahon segment
During the interview, D-Von Dudley was asked about his thoughts on a controversial Vince McMahon moment from over 20 years ago.
At Survivor Series 2005, Vince was part of a backstage segment with John Cena and called him the N-word. The camera then panned to Booker T and Sharmell, who were shocked by the incident.
Speaking to VLAD TV, D-Von said he was disgusted by the segment. He said he even stopped watching WWE after this incident.
