Paul Heyman provides details on late ECW star in WWE 2K26

At one point, the Paul Heyman-led ECW was among the fastest-rising pro wrestling promotions in the US. Heyman was the creative force behind Extreme Championship Wrestling and was responsible for taking it to great heights. The Oracle recently spoke about a former ECW talent who has been showcased in WWE 2K26.

In an interview with TheSportster, Heyman discussed the portrayal of New Jack in 2K26 and called it “magnificent”. The late wrestler was a risk-taking superstar with a hardcore wrestling style.

Jack was first introduced to the 2K series in WWE 2K25. The character returned this year as a legend. Heyman said the former ECW World Tag Team Champion would have been very happy about the inclusion if he were alive.

“I think New Jack would have been so happy, and then he would have gone out and randomly sta**ed a bunch of people just because that’s what New Jack would do, because he’s a gangster. The portrayal of New Jack in this game is very magnificent because it’s so authentic,” Paul Heyman said.

When WWE and WCW were engaged in the Monday Night Wars, ECW amassed a cult fan following with its unique product. WWE 2K26 features ECW originals, like Sandman, Rob Van Dam, and The Dudley Boyz, among others.

Paul Heyman compared New Jack to Roman Reigns

In the same interview, Paul Heyman drew parallels between Roman Reigns and New Jack. He said fans loved Reigns as the Tribal Chief because it was not a character, similar to Jack’s portrayal in ECW.

“You get to see Roman Reigns, because he is The Tribal Chief. This is not a portrayal of a character. This is Roman Reigns. This is reality television. New Jack was before that. The portrayal of New Jack was no portrayal at all,” Heyman added.

Many fans loved New Jack because his character seemed authentic. Jerome Young brought his real-life personality to TV screens with his wrestling gimmick.
