The design center for Arc’teryx is located on Vancouver’s North Shore. Countless bits of gear, from jackets to packs to shoes, have been tested in the harsh and wet conditions of the North Shore.
To be clear, many Arc’teryx products have already been used on soggy North Shore trails aboard a mountain bike. Yet, none of them were designed specifically for mountain biking.
That is, until now. Introducing Rhoam: a jacket, pants, and shorts. Rhoam marks Arc’teryx’s first venture into mountain biking.
The Arc’teryx Rhoam Collection
“Our heritage is rooted in building gear for people who live and thrive in the mountains, and that includes our own team. Many of us ride; our athletes ride. Mountain biking is part of our culture,” Ashley Anson, VP Design at Arc’teryx, said.
Setting out to create their first mountain bike kit, Arc’teryx applied the same philosophy they’ve always had. They used the same technical expertise used in climbing and snow shells, but adapted for bike use. This means perfect articulation for on-bike body positioning.
The fit is also tailored specifically for men’s and women’s bodies.
Anson continued: “Our team spent countless hours riding in some of the toughest conditions on the North Shore; this capsule is the result of mountain athletes designing for how they ride, move, and experience the outdoors.”
Arc’teryx uses hybrid material mapping across the entire lineup. Material mapping allows for greater stretch and articulation, as well as improved protection and thermoregulation.
Rhoam Hybrid Jacket
Arc’teryx designed the Rhoam Hybrid Jacket to face the wettest of rides. The hybrid jacket features the best of both worlds–the comfort and stretch of a softshell with the weather protection of a hardshell.
The Rhoam Hybrid Jacket combines 50D softshell material with a durable Gore-Tex membrane. Arc’teryx placed the Gore-Tex where it is needed most: the arms, the hood, and body. Other portions of the jacket consist of the softshell material for freedom of movement.
Other mountain bike-specific features are also built into the jacket. The hood is large enough to fit over a helmet, yet still provides good peripheral visibility. A pocket at the lower back helps store items, while another chest pocket is specifically for storing a phone.
Lastly, velcro cuffs and a drawstring waist help with fit and keep out the elements.

Rhoam Pants
Arc’teryx combines Fortius DW 2.0 softshell fabric with Aequora AirPerm fabric for the Rhoam Pants. And again, material mapping allows them to do so in specific areas to achieve performance goals.
The Fortius softshell fabric is comfortable yet durable and offers reliable protection against the wind. This material makes up a good portion of the Rhoam Pants. To reduce excess heat and enhance breathability, Arc’teryx uses Aequora fabric at the waist and behind the knees.
All of this receives a water-repellent finish to help keep the weather out.
Arc’teryx designed the pants to have a slimmer fit, while allowing for kneepads. The lower legs have a zipper providing easier access to the kneepads, while zippered side pockets help keep other items secure.
Men’s and women’s pants have different cuts: women’s have a higher-rise fit, while men’s have a mid-rise.

Rhoam Shorts
Many of the same features from the Rhoam Pants carry over to the Rhoam Shorts, except for the lower-leg portions. Arc’teryx uses the same Fortius DW 2.0 and Aequora AirPerm fabrics for comfort, durability, and breathability, placed in the same areas.
The shorts also feature a 13” inseam and the same high- and mid-rise design for women and men as the pants.
