AEW star Ricochet was set to compete in a major crossover at an upcoming event. However, the match was canceled and garnered major attention, leading to The Lightskin Kingpin to break his silence.
He was announced to compete against TNA star Leon Slater at WrestleCon’s Memorial event right before WrestleMania 42. Slater has been one of the rising talents on their roster and even wrestled on an episode of SmackDown recently. However, days before the match, WrestleCon announced that Slater had been pulled from the scheduled bout.
This came after TNA President Carlos Silva was reportedly displeased that AEW aired an episode of Collision directly opposite IMPACT last week. Moreover, it has been rumored that TNA is restricting its talent from competing against All Elite Wrestling stars due to its long-term partnership with rival company WWE.
After the match was canceled, Ricochet expressed his thoughts on the matter. He took to his X to boldly claim that he would have laid a huge beatdown on Slater had they competed at WrestleCon’s event.
“I was gonna whoop Leon a** anyway. 👑.”

WWE legend says Ricochet is not the smartest after his recent online controversy
Ricochet found himself in the crosshairs of a major controversy after the AEW Revolution 2026 event. He lost the National Championship in a 21-man Blackjack Battle Royale, and he lashed out at the AEW management. At the same time, he sent some derogatory comments towards a fan who was dealing with a serious medical condition, which sparked a lot of backlash towards him.
In an interview with ITR Wrestling, WWE Hall of Famer Eric Bischoff said that the former WWE star was not the smartest person after passing that comment. At the same time, Bischoff acknowledged that he apologized to the fans and suggested that people move on from it.
“Ricochet is not the smartest, brightest bulb on the tree, so to speak. That was a stupid thing to do. I think his excuse was, ‘Oh I was in character.’ No, I just think it was poor judgment, that he tried to camouflage by talking about the fact that he was in character when he did it as opposed to just saying, ‘I’m sorry.’ He should have just said, ‘I’m sorry’ and not try to make an excuse for it. Whatever, he did apologize, that’s what matters. We all move on,” Bischoff stated. [H/T ITR Wrestling]
Furthermore, he is next set to battle the returning Chris Jericho at AEW Dynasty 2026. So it will be interesting to see whether he can defeat a legend like Y2J himself.
