Armando Gonzalez has now vowed to make his “dream” move happen, with Celtic among the clubs eyeing a deal for the Chivas forward this summer.
Gonzalez drops exit bombshell amid Celtic interest
Celtic have got it all to do this summer. Before anything, they’ve got the task of finding a long-term manager in place of interim boss Martin O’Neill. The latter has done an admirable job, but the fact that he’s been forced to return twice this season highlights just how disastrous the current campaign has been at times.

The Bhoys could reignite their interest…
Once that managerial problem has been solved, the focus must turn towards reinforcements – especially within the Bhoys’ frontline. The Scottish giants have lacked a consistent forward all season and that must change this summer.
Just who arrives to solve that problem remains the big question. Parkhead chiefs could pursue a familiar face in the form of Motherwell’s Tawanda Maswanhise or they could choose an unknown star.
Chivas striker Gonzalez recently admitted that he’s dreaming of moving to a European club and Celtic are reportedly among the clubs to have shown interest in the Mexican in recent months. The forward spoke in length, answering questions about European interest.
“No, I try to focus on my day-to-day life. If it happens, I’d be very grateful; if not, I’ll work to make it happen. My father and my agents are very cautious about that and prefer not to fill my head with things, so I don’t get distracted, and I’m very grateful for that.”
When asked if he’s thinking about a move, Gonzalez continued by saying: “Yes, I would try, because it’s a dream I have. But if it doesn’t happen, it’s no big deal; I’ll keep working. And if it does happen, I’ll be very grateful. It all depends on staying focused on the day-to-day.”
Impressive Gonzalez could solve Celtic problem
Celtic’s interest should come as no surprise. Gonzalez has been excellent for Chivas this season, scoring 24 goals in all competitions. If the Bhoys are looking for a consistent goalscorer, then he’s certainly got the right credentials.

As an out-and-out goalscorer, Gonzalez would be an instant upgrade on Maeda this summer. In fewer minutes this season, the 23-year-old has scored more goals and done so whilst outperforming his expected rate.
Maeda, meanwhile, has underperformed in front of goal and that missing ruthless streak has cost Celtic at times. If they’ve got a chance to welcome Gonzalez, then they should take it this summer.
Whether that chance is realistic is the big question, however. Alongside the Bhoys, West Ham United and Barcelona have also been linked with the impressive forward.
Competing with West Ham is possible for Celtic, but if Barcelona were to come calling, it would blow almost every other interested side out of the water in the coming months.
