After winning the Scottish Premiership this season, Celtic will look to add the Scottish Cup to their trophy haul when they take on Dunfermline Athletic in the final at Hampden Park on Saturday. The Hoops are heavily favored against a side from the Scottish Championship.
Celtic won the Scottish Premiership on Saturday, securing the title on the final matchday of the 2025–26 season with a hard-fought 3-1 victory over Hearts. This is their fifth league title in a row and their 56th overall.
Thanks for the submission!
The win over Hearts was a nervy one, with the score 1-1 at halftime. Goals from Daizen Maeda in the 86th minute and Callum Osmand in the 97th minute ensured what otherwise looked like a comfortable victory.
That win was crucial, as it allowed Martin O’Neill’s men to surpass Hearts on the final day and win the title by two points, as Celtic ended with 82 points on the league table.
Meanwhile, few would have expected Championship (Scottish second tier) side Dunfermline Athletic to reach the Scottish Cup final. They have enjoyed an incredible giant-killing cup run to get to the title match, defeating Premiership sides Aberdeen and Falkirk along the way.
The Pars beat Aberdeen 3-0 in the quarterfinals and then drew 0-0 with Falkirk in the semifinals, before a penalty shootout decided the match in their favor.
Dunfermline’s most recent match was a 2-1 defeat away to Partick Thistle last Friday in the Scottish Premiership promotion/relegation play-off semifinal. Charlie Gilmour opened the scoring for Dunfermline in the 33rd minute, but Logan Chalmers and Alex Samuel scored for Partick Thistle to win 3-2 on aggregate.
After the disappointment of losing out on promotion to the Scottish top flight, Dunfermline will be focused on the difficult task ahead in the cup final, but Celtic will certainly be their most difficult match yet.
