Maddison will love him: Spurs could agree deal to sign £60m star “soon”

Tottenham Hotspur are tidying up Roberto De Zerbi‘s squad well ahead of the 2026/27 campaign, with a concerted effort being placed on learning from past mistakes.

Cristian Romero is expected to leave Tottenham this summer, but efforts have been made to counter that blow. Marcos Senesi and Andy Robertson are both set to join the Lilywhites when their respective contracts expire at the end of the month, and an opening offer has already been tabled for Brighton centre-back Jan Paul van Hecke.

Shoring up at the back is crucial, and it should not be lost on supporters that De Zerbi is piecing together a backline of ball-playing defenders, but Spurs’ bluntness in attack this season has left fans eager for top-class forwards.

Spurs agree deal for Premier League forward

James Maddison featured off the bench across Tottenham’s final three fixtures of the Premier League season, and while the 29-year-old playmaker was inevitably rusty after his ACL injury, you could see the natural creativity shining through. Spurs have lacked that.

Maddison will play a big part next year, but he will need creative support, especially from the attacking flanks. Randal Kolo Muani will be gone following a loan spell that is best buried, but it’s crucial that ENIC Group secure the right replacement.

According to Fabrizio Romano himself, that man could be Manchester City’s Savinho, who is expected to leave the Etihad Stadium this summer after falling to the fringes under Pep Guardiola.

Tottenham attempted to sign the Brazilian winger one year ago, coming close with a £60m bid, but City ultimately pulled out of negotiations.

    Savinho-Manchester-City

Now, however, Romano has confirmed that a deal could be concluded “quite soon” following talks, with Savinho ready to join the north Londoners and cement a starting berth under De Zerbi’s management.

Why Maddison will love Savinho at Spurs

Savinho hasn’t had the greatest season in the Premier League for Manchester City, but he did hit a vein of form toward the end of the season, and his fleet-footed running and skill on the ball could see him thrive in a role of greater importance at Tottenham.

The dynamic winger is exactly what Spurs need. His profile is one of immense creativity and speed, and he has been described as described as “one of the best U21s in Europe” by talent scout Jacek Kulig in the past.

Now 22, Savinho is more mature and would relish the chance to become a focal point at Spurs, demonstrating during the 2024/25 season his capacity to dazzle, racking up eight assists across only 21 Premier League starts, creating 11 big chances and completing 1.8 dribbles per game on average.

Maddison, who is among the finest creators in the Premier League when fit and firing, will enjoy playing alongside the South American winger. He knows how to pick out a pass, and the creative variations would pay dividends for a Tottenham side who were far too blunt this season, sending them in a spin.

These types of players have not been found at Spurs of late, and adding them to the fold could make all the difference in closing down the Europe-chasing pack after the summer break.

There’s no question that De Zerbi’s appointment had a resounding effect on the beleaguered Tottenham players, and Savinho could help take them to the next level, adding flair to a far more stable foundation.

Manchester City's Savinho scores their second goal

Savinho is the real deal, but he needs to play regularly, and on Tottenham’s left wing, he could find the perfect conditions to realise his potential, especially with Maddison pulling the strings beside him.
