The New Day’s legendary pitch before WWE exit

The New Day were synonymous with WWE for over a decade before their time as a tag team ended in the company. Recently, Matt Hardy revealed that the duo made a legendary pitch to the company before their exit.

In 2025, The Hardy Boyz became the first team from TNA Wrestling to hold championship gold in the Stamford-based promotion while working with the Nashville-based company. Jeff and Matt won the NXT tag Team Championship and lost it in less than a month to DarkState. However, a massive idea was pitched, which never happened.

Speaking on the Battleground Podcast, Matt Hardy revealed that The New Day reached out to the legendary tag team and wanted to have a program with them on the weekly product. Unfortunately, it didn’t happen, and the two notable teams didn’t have a match in the Stamford-based promotion.

“I’m not going to lie, when we started going back and forth with WWE and we worked some NXT and were NXT Tag Team Champions for a little while, The New Day had reached out and asked us about having a match on WWE programming and doing a little program with them. Unfortunately, it didn’t quite work out. There’s a lot of interest for the teams to face. So, we shall see,” Hardy said.

Why did The New Day leave WWE?

The New Day made a significant mark in the industry with their work, as Big E, Kofi Kingston, and Xavier Woods achieved excellence in their respective divisions, primarily the tag team division. Apart from winning the WWE Championship, E and Kingston have won other championships in the promotion.

Earlier this year, Kingston and Woods announced their exit, and it came as a shock to many. The two were assumed to be WWE lifers and would’ve eventually made their way into the Hall of Fame, but there was a reason behind their sudden exit from the Stamford-based promotion.

According to multiple reports, the company wanted to restructure its deals, which is why Kingston and Woods decided to leave. The New Day is still one of the hottest acts in wrestling, and they will sooner rather than later appear in a wrestling promotion as a tag team.
