A WWE legend revealed that a wardrobe malfunction led to a sudden change in his ring gear. The star made this revelation while replying to a fan on social media.
Thousands of dollars are spent on wrestlers’ custom ring gear so they stand out on weekly television. Fans memorize every detail of these iconic outfits, but sometimes, sudden wardrobe malfunctions force superstars to make quick, unscripted changes hours before a live broadcast. A simple tear can derail an entire look, leading to improvised fixes. That is exactly what happened to Matt Hardy.
Thanks for the submission!
A fan took to X to reveal that while watching the April 24, 2009, episode of Friday Night SmackDown, they noticed an odd, sticker-like lettering covering the back of Matt Hardy’s tights. The viewer pointed out that the lettering looked jarring and had never appeared on his gear during prior weeks. Hardy saw the post and quickly jumped into the replies to explain the exact situation.
He revealed that the patch wasn’t permanent. Instead, it was an emergency cover-up for a massive tear that happened to his gear during an untelevised live event the previous night.
“It was there to cover up a massive tear/rip in my tights that occurred the night before on a live event. Had a new black pair made the following week (as well as the purple & blue ones) to replace the damaged one,” Hardy replied to the fan’s post.

The temporary fix did not last long, and Hardy confirmed he had new gear to permanently resolve the issue. He noted that he had a brand-new black pair made the very next week to replace the damaged tights entirely. This wardrobe update also included the debut of his memorable purple and blue variants.
WWE legend Matt Hardy revealed The New Day’s pitch before their exit
The New Day’s departure from WWE in May marked the end of one of the most successful factions in company history.
Now, during an appearance on the Battleground Podcast, Matt Hardy dropped an absolute bombshell about a missed WWE dream match between The Hardy Boyz and The New Day.
Matt said that when he and Jeff Hardy made surprise appearances on NXT during the talent exchange between WWE and TNA Wrestling, Kofi Kingston and Xavier Woods reached out with a monumental idea. The New Day wanted to have a program with The Hardy Boyz on weekly television.
“I’m not going to lie, when we started going back and forth with WWE and we worked some NXT and were NXT Tag Team Champions for a little while, The New Day had reached out and asked us about having a match on WWE programming and doing a little program with them. Unfortunately, it didn’t quite work out. There’s a lot of interest for the teams to face. So, we shall see,” Hardy said.
It remains to be seen if this dream match between two legendary teams takes place in the future.
