He’s in a different league to Kroupi: Spurs now ready to sign elite striker

When Tottenham Hotspur announced the signing of Sandro Tonali last week from Newecastle United in a remarkable deal worth £100m, very few supporters would have expected them to spend lavishly again.

However, Spurs are in no mood to get bunkered down in a relegation zone once more. Under Roberto De Zerbi, they mean business, so much in fact that they could now beat the likes of PSG and Arsenal to the signing Eli Junior Kroupi from Bournemouth.

The Cherries to not want to lose their young prodigy but the Frenchman will no doubt be keen to test himself at the highest level, reportedly said to be keen on a move to the Lilywhites.

Valued at £90m, however, it would not be cheap deal. It would, however, be a remarkably good capture.

How Kroupi could fit into the Spurs team

Not since a young Wayne Rooney has a teenage striker been spoken about this much in the Premier League.

Kroupi cooked up a storm in the top-flight last term, scoring 13 times for the Cherries as they secured a European berth. It was such an impressive season. No teenager has ever scored 13 goals in their debut Premier League season before.

He’s already ahead of Ryan Giggs’ tally (12) as a teenager, he’s level with Marcus Rashford, ahead of Jermain Defoe and just one behind Raheem Sterling. He’s among some elite company and it’s clear to see why.

Daniel Sturridge, one of the most composed goalgetters of the modern-era has already hailed the teen as “one of the best finishers in the Premier League”. Fine praise indeed and deserved praise too.

That being said, one of the biggest boons to signing Kroupi would not just be his goalscoring but his versatility.

Spurs need a striker, that much is clear, and if the Frenchman moved to London that’s where he would likely play for Roberto De Zerbi. Yet, he could also play in multiple other roles.

This is a player who could easily solve Tottenham’s issues in wide areas. While he did not play a single game on the flanks under Andoni Iraola last term, he showcased that he was more than capable of doing a job on the left for Lorient in 2024/25. During his final season in France, the talented forward played six times on the flank and scored seven times.

As a result, it’s not just Dominic Solanke who would be worried for his place but Matys Tel, Wilson Odobert, Richarlison and Xavi Simons would also be sweating over their long-term futures.

He has still been versatile on the south coast, playing in a slightly deeper role as a second striker behind Evanilson. He scored six goals in 16 apperances from that role, scoring a further seven in 19 outings as the main centre forward. The fact he can play behind the striker, however, means the likes of James Maddison and Dejan Kulusevski would also be concerned for their minutes.

Kroupi would certainly be a remarkable addition but is he the dream addition? Perhaps not.

Spurs ready to sign a better striker than Kroupi

The speedy French superstar was a marvel for Bournemouth last term and has all of the tools to become one of the best strikers in the world before too long.

However, he is not there yet. The great Harry Kane arguably holds that title, hailed as “the current best player in the world” by journalist Daniel Storey for his exploits since leaving Tottenham.

Kane left Spurs behind three years ago and while he has taken his game to brand new heights, it has been rather bleak for the Lilywhites who have suffered back-to-back relegation fights.

With Kane in their ranks, that would not have happened, but fear not, he could well return in the future. It’s a move that would outstrip not just Kroupi but Mateus Fernandes and Tonali too. He is Spurs’ greatest-ever goalscorer.

Now, according to TEAMtalk, De Zerbi and Co are ready to re-sign the veteran centre-forward if the chance arises.

With 12 months left on his contract, an opportunity to take him from Bayern Munich may well emerge with Barcelona having made enquiries while Real Madrid and teams in the Saudi Pro League are also watching his situation with intent.

Spurs are also in talks with the player’s camp about his future in Germany and while a move will not happen now, nor is an official approach being discussed, they believe they have a genuine shot at bringing him back in a year if the stars align.

Now, we don’t need to tell you how good Kane is, everyone associated with Spurs knows, but the sheer magnitude of a move like this would be remarkable.

Who knows where Tottenham might be in 2027 under De Zerbi? They’ve already shown huge ambition under the Italian already and if you thought Kroupi would be the icing on top of the cake, think again. Kane would top it all off remarkably.

Since moving abroad, he has become the very best that European football has to offer. He scored 61 goals at club level in 51 outings during 2025/26 and has added another six in six at the ongoing World Cup in North America.

He is simply in a different league not only to Kroupi, but most players on the planet.
