SummerSlam 2026 Night Two saw the crowning of a new WWE Champion, and it wasn’t who you might have expected. It was a rather unexpected finish and an unexpected name who was crowned.
It was the third match of the night, and the Interim WWE Women’s Championship was on the line. The reason behind the match was the fact that Rhea Ripley is still injured, and with no current update in sight about when she could be back, WWE decided to crown an Interim Women’s Champion in the meantime. It would be determined in a ladder match, and the contestants included Jade Cargill, Charlotte Flair, Lash Legend, Tiffany Stratton, and Chelsea Green. One would think that the favorites in order would be Charlotte Flair->Jade Cargill->Tiffany Stratton->Lash Legend->Chelsea Green. However, WWE decided to turn that upside down.

The crowd favorite in SummerSlam was Chelsea Green, who was given the least odds of winning the match. Yet in a bizarre turn of events, it was Chelsea Green who was crowned as the new WWE Interim Women’s Champion – giving her the first World Championship of her career.
It looked like it would be a war between Jade Cargill and Charlotte Flair, and to be fair, that was a dominant story being told. However, the competitiveness of Stratton was also notable, and in an epic spot leading up to the finish, Chelsea Green shoved Stratton from the top of the ladder to take every other competitor out.
Chelsea Green was first close to winning, only for B-Fab and Michin to show up and stop her. The chaos that happened in the ladder with all the contestants happened while Chelsea Green was upside down on the ladder, nearly knocked out. She came back, seemingly out of nowhere, and capitalized on a tiny window to become the new (Interim) Women’s Champion at SummerSlam.
