Several minutes after the final whistle, Bay FC goalkeeper Jordan Silkowitz was shouting instructions and moving her team to the right spot.
Except this time, it wasn’t her teammates ahead of a corner kick. It was her own family.
Dozens of family members, friends and loved ones packed a corner underneath the stands at Audi Field in Washington, welcoming the visiting keeper back home.
And while there was plenty of love for the native of nearby Fairfax, VA, from her parents, her sister, her uncle, and even her third-grade teacher, it was still not quite enough to stop the Washington Spirit from spoiling Jordan Silkowitz’s homecoming and handing Bay FC a 1-0 defeat.
