CM Punk defended his Undisputed WWE Championship on this week’s SmackDown. He put his gold on the line against Sami Zayn.
CM Punk hurt his left knee early in the contest. Sami Zayn capitalized on the opening and began targeting The Second City Saint’s knee. However, Punk, being a crafty veteran, set his sights on The Master Strategist’s injured hand.
Thanks for the submission!
The duo engaged in a slow-paced, but hard-hitting match. At one point, Punk seemed set to defeat Zayn before Johnny Gargano and Candice LeRae showed up. While the referee was distracted, The Best in the World made Zayn tap out to the Anaconda Vice.
Zayn was about to hit Punk with the Undisputed WWE Championship, but Kevin Owens arrived to stop him in his tracks. However, the plan backfired, as KO inadvertently hit The Second City Saint with the title.
The Master Strategist took advantage of the mixup and delivered a vicious Helluva Kick to CM Punk. Zayn shockingly pinned The Best in the World to win the Undisputed WWE Championship for the second time in his career.
It will be interesting to see how Punk reacts to his unexpected Undisputed WWE Championship loss on SmackDown.
