The Football Association will take no further action against assistant referee Constantine Hatzidakis after he appeared to elbow Andy Robertson during Liverpool’s 2-2 draw with Arsenal on Sunday.
“I fully assisted the FA with their investigation and have discussed the matter directly with Andy Robertson during an open and positive conversation,” Hatzidakis said in a statement.
“It was certainly not my intention to make any contact with Andy as I pulled my arm away from him, and for that, I have apologized. I look forward to returning to officiating matches.”
Hatzidakis was briefly dropped from working matches Monday after the FA opened an investigation.
“Our comprehensive process involved reviewing detailed statements from Liverpool and the PGMOL (the Professional Game Match Officials Limited), as well as multiple angles of video footage, in relation to both the incident and its surrounding circumstances,” the FA explained.
The incident occurred when Robertson appeared to reach for Hatzidakis’ arm as he tried to confront the official just after the halftime whistle was blown. Robertson picked up a yellow card after he protested Hatzidakis’ apparent elbow.
Keith Hackett, the former head of the PGMOL, said Hatzidakis’ career would’ve been “in jeopardy” if he was found guilty.
