Gabby Agbonlahor has just joked Bukayo Saka has ‘scored more goals at Old Trafford than Antony has’, amid criticism of the Manchester United winger.
Saka starred for England last night with a hat-trick against North Macedonia at United’s home stadium, and former Aston Villa captain Agbonlahor said it was the kind of performance United fans expected from Antony following his big-money arrival from Ajax last summer.
Instead, though, the Brazil international has struggled to impress in a Red Devils shirt, managing just four goals and two assists in 25 Premier League games.
Gabby isn’t alone with his criticism of Antony, with Man United legend Andy Cole recently admitting the winger is not up to standard.
“This inverted winger role that Antony plays, as a striker you want your wingers to create chances for you,” Cole told Genting Casino.
“Antony has had two assists in the Premier League this season, and he’s only scored four goals. I know it’s his first season and Manchester United paid a lot of money for him, but if you’re a winger then you have to be creating more chances.
“Look at Manchester United’s former players like David Beckham and Ryan Giggs, look at their goals and assists, that’s Manchester United’s standards.
“Will Antony improve next season? I hope so, he’s young but we’ll have to see.”
