Bowen responds to England snub in the best way possible with historic goal

West Ham star Jarrod Bowen scored a historic goal against Luton as he responded to his England snub in the best possible fashion.

The Hatters hosted the Hammers in their first ever Premier League match at Kenilworth Road.

West Ham arrived at the clash off the back of a huge 3-1 win away at Brighton last weekend.

Bowen scored and assisted against the Seagulls, but was not named in Gareth Southgate’s England squad for their upcoming games against Ukraine and Scotland.

However, the 26-year-old ensured the omission did not affect his efforts for West Ham as he scored his third of the season.

He was on hand to get onto the end of Lucas Paqueta’s cross inside the area to head past Luton goalkeeper Thomas Kaminski.

In doing so, he has become the first person to score at Kenilworth Road in the Premier League.

And he is also the first West Ham player to score in three consecutive away games at the start of a season since 1930.

He has once again proven keen for the Hammers

Speaking on commentary for talkSPORT, former West Ham defender Stuart Pearce believes Luton could have defended better.

“I’m looking at [Ryan] Giles who’s outside the play, you’ve got to be inside your striker there.

“Especially with someone like Bowen who’s probably West Ham’s biggest threat in front of goal. The goalkeeper was just rooted to his line wasn’t he?”

Kurt Zouma scored West Ham’s second goal in the final ten minutes but Luton responded through Mads Andersen in stoppage time.

However, the Hammers were able to hold onto all three points with a 2-1 win to go top of the Premier League table.
