Forest fans pay tribute to Brennan Johnson as Spurs star suffers head injury

Nottingham Forest fans paid a classy tribute to Brennan Johnson as he was forced off through injury on his return to the club.

After signing for Tottenham in the summer, Johnson was making his first appearance at the City Ground since leaving for £47.5million.

But unfortunately, the Wales international’s return was cruelly cut short through injury.

It meant that the forward had to trudge off after 32 minutes but the Forest fans were on hand to applaud their old hero.

As the 22-year-old left and departed down the tunnel, fans serenaded him with a rendition of ‘Brennan Johnson, he’s one of our own’.

Johnson came up through the academy at Forest before breaking into the first-team in 2021/22, playing every game in the Championship season.

His 16 goals helped Forest reach promotion to the Premier League.

And after a season with his local club in the top flight where he scored eight times, a mega-money move followed as one of Ange Postecoglou‘s first signings at Tottenham.

While the Nottingham-born star has toiled with injuries, he has managed just one goal this season for Spurs in the Premier League.

But if he wanted a happy return at his old club, it would not come as he was hauled off after 30 minutes.

In the stands was his father, David, who is also a favourite among the Forest fans.

He played for the club from 2001 to 2006, which coincided with the birth of his son, Brennan, in 2001.

Tottenham would go on to take the lead, though, minutes later when Richarlison scored just before half-time before Dejan Kulusevski rounded off a 2-0 win at the City Ground.

Steve Cooper is facing trouble at Forest as he fights to save his job and was close to the sack last week.

talkSPORT reported that a loss to Wolves would have seen the axe drop but a 1-1 draw has staved off the sack for at least another week.
